ESA and Filtronic Collaborate on Cutting-Edge Satellite Technology for 5G and 6G Networks

British electronics company Filtronic is at the stage of creating advanced capabilities of the next generation of satellite arrays to provide high-speed Internet coverage.

September 29, 2023

Backed by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the UK Space Agency, Filtronic is a leading manufacturer of space equipment focused on high-speed, high-bandwidth connections between low-Earth orbit satellites and ground stations.

This collaboration will be ESA's strategic mission to advance digital transformation, especially in the field of 5G technology. A low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite arrays will play a critical role in shaping the future coverage of 5G and 6G networks, improving terrestrial communications infrastructure and providing instant and uninterrupted connectivity.

Filtronic technology operates in the millimeter frequency range, providing a wide bandwidth, high data transfer rate and minimal delay within local boundaries.

The contract is part of ESA's Space for 5G and 6G program, which is part of ESA's Advanced Research in Telecommunications Systems (ARTES) initiative. ARTES aims to foster commercial innovation and strengthen European and Canadian dominance in the highly competitive global satellite communications arena.
